INDIANA STATE MEET

Ramiah Elliott Wins Sprint Triple And Anchors Winning 4x400 Relay To Carry North Central To Girls Title; Addy Wiley Smashes Two State Meet Records; Plainfield Wins First Boys Track Championship

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Ramiah Elliott pulled off one of the most sensational performances in the history of the Indiana state meet, following in the footsteps of Lynna Irby five years ago, and leading North Central (Indianapolis) to the state championship.

Elliott, who won the New Balance Nationals Indoor title in the 200 meters in March, won the 100 meters in 11.46, the 200 meters in 23.63 and the 400 meters in 54.75. Then she capped it off by anchoring the winning 4x400 relay.

Irby, now a professional, won the same three sprint events in 2017 but did not add the relay piece.

Elliott, a University of Florida recruit, split 52.8 on her anchor leg of the relay.

Addy Wiley of Huntington North also went out in style as an all-time great with a new state meet record 2:06.26 in the 800 meters and another state meet record in the 1,600 meters with 4:38.69.

Wiley, who is committed to Colorado, also finished third in the 3,200 meters.

Rachel Mehringer of Forest Park, a junior, broke the meet record in the 100-meter hurdles with 13.92.

Sophomore Hadley Lucas from Bloomington North swept the shot put (46-4.25) and discus (147-4) titles.

Valparaiso ran US#6 9:03.91 to win the 4x800 relay.

Emily Nannenga from Kankakee Valley won the high jump with a clearance at 5-10.

In the boys meet, Columbus North ran a US#1 in the 4x800 relay with 7:37.90, which broke the state meet record.

John Colquitt from Brownsburg starred with victories in the 110-meter hurdles (13.90) and 300 hurdles (37.92) and he ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay (41.60). He also finished eighth in the long jump.

Anthony Brodie from Evansville Reitz Memorial won the 100 meters in 10.57 seconds.

In the 200, Nayyir Newash-Campbell of Plainfield ran a state-leading 21.35 in the prelims but finished third in the final, which was won by Kemari Robinson of Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter in 21.49. Newash-Campbell won the 400 in 47.45 to help power Plainsfield to its first track and field title.

Carmel junior Kole Mathison, a member of last year's DyeStat Dual Meet Championship team, won the 1,600 meters in 4:04.82, and the 3,200 meters in 8:59.05.

Kai Connor from Westfield gave his school its first state champion with a victory in the 800 in 1:51.84.

In a meet where four throwers surpassed 60 feet in the shot put, Tucker Smith of Columbus North won it with 66-6.75.

Hobart junior Cody Johnston cleared 16-8 to win the pole vault.
