Laila Smith, a junior at Warren Central High, placed second in the 100-meter hurdles final in a wind-legal 14.19 seconds and secured runner-up in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 19-5 (5.92m) in the third round at the Indiana State Championships at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington. Smith also took third in the 300-meter hurdles final in 42.97 seconds and contributed to a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:54.66, as Warren Central was second in the team competition with 44 points, edged by Noblesville's 45 points for the championship.
